Tales of A Hot Mess Mama

Tales of A Hot Mess Mama

Does anyone else feel like a hot mess mom?

I don’t know about all of you wonderful ladies but it seems likely lately I am constantly feeling like I should be labeled as a hot mess mom and definitely not like a super mom.¬† You know that feeling when you have a day, week, or even a month where it seems like you just can’t do anything right.¬† This happened the last time I went to the grocery store for a big shopping trip.

It was a Sunday afternoon and with no plans in sight so I carved out a few hours to hunker down and really stock up on food and extras.  I got to the store and leisurely walked through the isles and even stopped to take some pictures of beauty products in preparation for a future blog post.  I was excited to get out of the house on my own for a bit, walk around, and explore the store.

I was feeling a little proud for picking out some healthy food to make some yummy and healthy dinners for my little family.  There was even some excitement for a new tube of mascara I had finally taken the time to purchase.  After about an hour and a half after being at the store I headed to the check out lines and piled all of my things on the conveyor belt.

I waited for everything to get rung up and stacked all of the bags in my buggy. The cashier let me know my total and I started searching for my credit card. However, I couldn’t find it and the more furiously I searched the more I started to develop a hot flash. Then I started feeling embarrassed as other people in line just stared me down and the anxiety settled in.

Eventually I found my check book but to my dismay I realized my photo ID was also missing.  I looked around in shock and watched the cashier look at me with pity. About five minutes passed by when I finally decided to call my husband. He agreed to get our little bear in the car and come rescue me.

I had to wait for about 20 minutes as my little guy stubbornly did not want to get in the car. People kept coming up to the register and the cashier had to tell them she was closed down for a little bit. Eventually my white night of a husband got there and paid for all the groceries. I will still so embarrassed and felt like I was sweating buckets.

Of course when I got to my car I found my credit card and ID sitting g underneath the passenger seat. It had fallen out of my purse at some point.  I drove home with my tail between my legs so to speak feeling like such a failure.

I don’t know why I let this upset me so much but it seemed to follow me around the whole next week. I try really hard to forgive others but have such a hard time forgiving myself.

Have you had a day like this lately? How do you deal with these moments?

Thanks for reading!

Love,

Book Review: Follow Me Home

Book Review: Follow Me Home

I absolutely love to read! So a month ago when one of my blogger friends shared an opportunity with me to read and review a book for the first time I jumped on the chance.¬† The book is called “Follow Me Home” by Jen Benjamin.

Book Description

When writer Katie Kendall moves to LA to turn her best-selling novel into a film, she is pretty sure it should be the happiest time of her life. But with an unsupportive husband who suddenly files for divorce, the paparazzi assuming she’s having a fling with the leading actor, and her friends left miles away in her old hometown, she begins to think she’s made a big mistake.

Can her new crowd of friends help her through these times? And could those paparazzi snappers have a point about that leading actor…?

About The Author

Jen Benjamin-author of the book

Jen Benjamin writes contemporary women’s fiction, particularly romantic comedies and chick lit novels. Jen is a newspaper writer who enjoys writing fiction when she takes a break from writing facts. She lives in Oklahoma with her husband, daughter and several pets. When she isn‚Äôt writing, Jen enjoys photography, reading, and playing the violin. She used to play the violin for a church and various other events, but now just plays for her own enjoyment.

Follow Me Home is Jen Benjamin’s debut novel. It is a fun, feel-good book with a main character that many young women will identify with. It is a witty, compelling and enjoyable read that will leave its audience guessing until the end.

Book Review

I really enjoyed reading this book!  It was the perfect book for me to enjoy on a recent 3 hour flight.  The author was able to catch my attention from the very first page.  It was an easy to read book that left me smiling and feeling good.  The plot was quite unique compared to other women lit novels I have read in the past and kept me on my toes wanting to know what was going to happen next.

The book is set up to read like the main character is writing in her personal diary; reflecting on events of the days past.¬† I found the main character Katie to be both funny and relatable. Almost like I was reading the diary of one of my good friends.¬† One of the things I especially loved about the character of Katie is that she wasn’t afraid to work hard towards reaching her goals and is empowering to women every where.¬† She’s able to dedicate her time to both her career, friends, and newly budding relationship.

My favorite part of the book would have to be following along with Katie as she explores her options in suitors; deciding what she wants out of a relationship and taking the plunge.¬† The author really let’s you get inside Katie’s head as she weighs the pros and cons of starting a new relationship and considering what other’s will think of her for it.¬† It felt very honest and relatable despite the character being¬†a bit of a celebrity.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a feel good book in the chick lit genre.¬† It was great to keep me occupied during a flight but would also make a fantastic beach or relaxing weekend¬†read.¬† Honestly the only negative thing I could say is that I wish the book had been longer so it didn’t have to end.

I’m giving a 4.5 out of 5 starts!

If you are interested in reading the book you can find it on Amazon here where you can get it in either the paperback or e-reader edition for a very reasonable price.

Thanks for reading,

* I did receive a free e-book copy of the book in exchange for writing this review.  However, all opinions of the book are one hundred percent mine.

A trip to the Arboretum

A trip to the Arboretum

I meant to have written this quite some time ago but we have been making a lot of trips this summer to visit family and it got a little lost in the shuffle.  About a month ago my little family made a trip to a beautiful arboretum at Penn State University that was filled with exotic and local flowers and spectacular sights.

When we first walked up the visitors building was completely surrounded by these beautiful flower beds and pots.  I thought to myself this is going to be such a relaxing trip with amazing sights.  As we walked through the entrance there was a field for children to play where I imagine they hold events on occasion.  These surrounding the field were picturesque views of rose bush walls like you imagine seeing in  castle or palace.  After staring in awe for a few minutes we decided to checkout the kids section which offered so many interesting exhibits and activities.

I don’t want to bore you with too many details of our adventure but want to share some of the cool exhibits that were offered.¬† There was this whole section of vegetable garden where kids could water everything with buckets that were provided.¬† If you happened to catch my last #MySundayPhoto post then you might have seen the succulent kaleidoscope picture which was quite a inventive feat.¬† There was also a section that included grapes growing on the vine, a small cave with a sandbox, some musical instruments, and supper cool frog lilly pond.¬† Even though it has been weeks since we went I still think of the beautiful flowers and go back to look at the pictures on my phone.¬† If you ever get the chance to visit Penn State I would definitely recommend taking an hour or so check it out; especially since it’s so family friendly ūüôā

My Diary

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog

Welcome all to my very first blog. I’m hoping that this can be a place for mothers of all kids to gather and share information about things that can help make our lives a little easier. My name is Sarah and I am a working mom of a wonderful two year old boy and very supportive husband! Some of my very favorite things to include reading, crafting, cooking, and finding ways to simplify my life.

My current project is crafting mother’s day presents for many of the wonderful women and mothers in my life that my two year old can help with. I plan to share pictures and tips later this week that will also go on my Pinterest page. Wish me luck!
