Walk with me (Week One)

Walk with me (Week One)

This Thursday marked the end of the first week of my walking challenge #MonthlyMileClub; a new adventure I have embarked on.  If you haven’t heard about it yet I will give you a little summary.

I recently decided that I wanted to try and create a community of people to help encourage and motivate each other to be more active.  This doesn’t mean you have to run (something I cannot do) or go to exercise classes (another thing I’m not a big fan of).  It is simply a place to use any kind of fitness tracker you might have (even a free one on your phone) to help track you steps/miles/kilometers for the month o July.  The website that is running the challenge can link to your fitness tracker to help you keep track or you can enter your miles on the website manually.  The idea is that you can set your own personal goal (it doesn’t have to be public) and the community as a whole will have a target for the month.  I promise to be super encouraging and will help with any problems or questions you might have.

It is not too late to join and is completely free of charge so go here to sign up.

There are really no limit to how many people can participate.

The first week has been kind of slow with participants however I have decided to set a group goal for 200 miles in the month of July as a community.  Meaning that the total number of miles for the group will hopefully reach to 200 by July 31st.

For those of you who already regularly use a fitness tracker on a regular basis it would not be hard to participate as you just sign up, make a profile, and allow it to link with your tracker device, and it automatically updates your daily activity putting it on the leader board.

Are you up for the challenge and looking for way to improve your wellness and activity?  So far we have two participants besides me that I am hugely grateful for but would love to see more. You can grab the badge below if you decide to join!

Surprisingly enough I checked my stats and in the first week I was able to walk a total of 18 miles.  Now a I’ll admit a big part of this is because over the weekend my family took a trip which included a lot of walking and sight seeing.  So those few days of more activity allowed me to be less active the rest of the week.  I think on a normal do so far it looks like I average around 1.5 to 2 miles.  To do this I have to make myself take extra trips around the office during the day to help be more active.  Of course it also helps when I need to go to the grocery store or do some shopping.  You would be very surprised by how many miles or steps you can achieve in a normal trip to the grocery store.  Seriously try tracking it sometime.  I ‘ll give you a tip I shared in my fitness tracker post wear your fitness tracker on your shoe or the belt loops of your pants so you can get an accurate reading.

Knowing that last week I reached 18 miles I am challenging myself to reach 20 this next week.  I believe it setting goals that are obtainable and than slowly increase over time.  I’m attending a wedding today so hopefully that will help in reaching my goals as well as running around with my family outside.  We are supposed to have decent weather this weekend so there will be lots of playing outside.  Maybe even a silly dance party or two.

I’ll check in next week! Hope you all have a fabulous week a head of you.

How do you stay more active? Would you be interested in joining the club? Is there a reason you might be hesitant to join?  What keeps you motivated

  • What a great challenge you have set yourself. And by the sounds of it you are already succeeding. I’ll have a look at the website in more detail and see if it’s something I feel I can join in. I mostly keep fit by running after my kids but occasionally do yoga and Pilates too X #triballove

    • Yes running after my toddler tends to be most of my active time. They sure do have a lot of energy! Thanks for commenting and considering joining!

  • I really need to get more active again. Before I got pregnant, I played roller derby and went to the gym 3-4 days a week – now if I get to the gym once or twice a month, that’s pretty good. The hard thing for me is finding the time – now that I’m working (almost) full time again, it’s hard to find time to work out. I’m going to make an effort to at least try to take a walk during my lunch break rather than sitting at my desk and reading blogs like I usually do – at least that’s something!

    • Wow I have always thought roller derby sounded so cool! It is hard to stay active at work. The fact that we do community service with the kids I work with is what mostly helps me. That and making myself take laps around the office every once in a while. Thanks for commenting!

  • I really agree that setting a target to get to works. Especially with trackers. I usually track with steps but my tracker records both so I don’t mind switching to miles for this challenge. I’d love for more people to join in. Get the graph looking good and see if we can start beating each other! Nothing like a bit of competition either! Thanks for linking up to #abrandnewday

    • Yes I would love to see more people join up with the challenge! I need to work on my marketing skills I think. Hopefully I can get the word out there some more. Thanks so much for signing up for the challenge. I’m happy to have someone else participate with me.
